Dear EGRC Supporters and Friends,
In the midst of the second wave of COVID, I hope you are all keeping safe.
2020 marks EGRC’s 15th Anniversary. Due to Covid restrictions we were not able to host any in-person events this year until recent days. On October 18th, over 180 of our university students, alumni and supporters gathered in 16 cities across China and held celebratory events. Outside China we have planned virtual events including two creative online fundraisers in Toronto and Vancouver, a social media campaign to reflect EGRC’s 15 year journey with videos, media reports, girls’ stories and donor testimonials. I will also be hosting two information sessions open to supporters and donors worldwide.
All these events will be happening in the coming weeks and continuing into the holiday season. For those who are not on social media, you will be receiving weekly newsletters. Please stay tuned and let us guide you through the 15 year journey. I hope you will enjoy learning more about the impact we have created together. To launch our celebration, I am excited to announce EGRC’s new video release.
Please stay tuned to our upcoming newsletters and follow us on social media.
EGRC’s New Video
We would like to acknowledge the great contributions by Olivia Martin-McGuire, an Australian documentary filmmaker and photographer. Olivia was inspired by EGRC’s work after she met Ching Tien in Shanghai in 2015. Since then, she’s been committed to sharing the story of EGRC through her the lens of her camera.
Between 2016 and 2019, Olivia made multiple trips to Gansu and other cities to photograph EGRC students, alumni and their families, as a pro-bono project. This new video showcases her talent, passion and devotion to EGRC. We express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to Olivia.
Olivia Martin-McGuire’s documentary film, ChinaLove, was released in December 2018, and it has further earned her an international reputation. The film was premiered at major international film festivals.
Girls Celebrated EGRC’s 15th Anniversary
Sunday, October 18th was a beautiful fall day in most cities across China. On that day over 180 EGRC university students, alumni and some supporters gathered in 16 different cities to celebrate EGRC’s 15th Anniversary.
This was EGRC’s alumni and university students’ first in-person gathering this year, and the girls had great anticipation towards the day. They creatively hosted a variety of activities including walking, hiking, visiting museums, making dumplings, and a mentoring session was hosted in Shanghai. In Lanzhou, the capital city of Gansu, the girls even organized a Toastmasters event.
Being able to reconnect in person allowed the EGRC girls to rekindle their friendships. Together, they reflected on their experiences with EGRC, and talked about their work and life. During the gathering, many of them sent messages and short videos to their Auntie Tien, expressing their gratitude and fond memories.
Congratulations – Founder Received an Award
On the occasion of the fiftieth anniversary of Canada-China diplomatic relations, the Canada China Business Council (CCBC) hosted their AGM where they presented 5 at 50 Award to five Canadian individuals to recognize their significant contributions to the relationship building between the two countries. Founder Ching Tien received this award in the category of Women. Under Ching’s vision and leadership, EGRC’s work in rural China is an example of people-to-people diplomacy, and a reminder of the universal values cherished by citizens of both nations.
Donor Engagements with the Founder
In gratitude for your support, Ching Tien would like to invite you to attend our Virtual Donor Information and Appreciation session. This is an opportunity for Ching to thank you for your continued contributions during this challenging time, and update you on the recent developments. Hope you are able to participate by attending one of the two events.
Sessions will be held via Zoom on the following dates:
- Tuesday, November 10 – 5:30 PM PST | 8:30 PM EST
- Monday, November 16 – 5:30 PM PST | 8:30 PM EST
People in Asia and Australia can join at their local times. We will schedule a session for people based in Europe at a later date.
