From the founder –

On the occasion of Mother’s Day, we at EGRC send our love and best wishes to all the mothers in the World.

It’s a fact. Educated women have educated children. Our collective future and the well-being of the whole human race are in the hands of mothers. We cheer on all the mothers for their love and dedication to their children and their contributions to the world.

From EGRC’s inception in 2005, we have witnessed many young women who have changed their lives by receiving an education. Seventeen years have passed and over 300 EGRC university graduates have become mothers. We are excited to witness their children growing up and becoming educated women and men. In this newsletter we are featuring a number of EGRC young mothers.

EGRC Young Mothers

Fanghong JiaGraphic Designer, Founder of Aiyisheng Design, Chengdu City, Sicuan Province; Graduated from Sichuan University in 2015

I appreciate my mother. Even though we were poor while growing up, she loves me and has always supported me. Because of her love and support I have the confidence to pursue my dreams.

After I graduated from university, I interned at an Australia design company in Shanghai. Then I started my own company with my then boyfriend, who has now become my husband. Three months ago I gave birth to my daughter. I deeply appreciate the love from my mother and the opportunities that my education has given me. I want to thank my mother on Mother’s Day.  Mother, I Love You!!!

Meifen Gong

Meifen GongSenior Program Manager, EGRC, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province; Graduated from Hubei University in 2012

I would never forget the moment when my daughter was born – the first time I held her in my arms. Her birth has given life an entirely new meaning and responsibility. 19 months have passed, and I have been so motivated to learn. I want to be the best mother I can to my child. This unconditional love to my daughter reminds me of the love I have received from my own mother. I wish all the mothers in the world a Happy Mother’s Day.

Wenxia TianPediatrician, Hospital of Chinese Medicine, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province; Graduated from Gansu University of Chinese Medicine in 2014

I am a mother of two – my older is four and my younger one is two. My job has taken up most of my time, and I barely have time to spend with my children. After I gave birth to my second child, COVID-19 broke out. I was hardly at home for the entire year of 2020. My baby boy got into a habit of falling asleep by hugging my pajamas.

I found it is tough for profession women particularly women working in the medical field to balance between work and family. I wish I am able to spend more time with my two children. On this Mother’s Day, my wish is to be a more present mother.

Yunxia Zhang

Yunxia ZhangInvestment Manager, Xiangyu Group, Shanghai; Graduated from Tongji University in 2012

Shanghai has been locked down for nearly a month, and I have been working from home for more than 40 days. During this time people have been experiencing anxiety, frustration and even depression… Among all the difficulties I have found my source of joy. Every day my son wakes up with a big smile, eats with a good appetite, and plays with curiosity and joy. His happiness gradually eased my worries. I feel he is the best gift I have received from the universe!

Liyan JiaGeneral Manager, Jinyucheng Technology, Guangzhou City, Guangdong Province; Graduated from Sun Yat-Sen University in 2010

After I left home in 2006, I have finished school, found work, got married and became a mother of two. What do I miss the most in life? It is the time I spent with my mother every day while growing up. Now, I have settled at a place far away from my hometown. On this Mother’s Day I am sending my love to my dear mother. Physically we are far apart, but my heart is next to yours… Happy Mother’s Day!

Xing Li

Xing LiHR Manager, Jingjia Microelectronic, Changsha City Hunan Province; Graduated from Hunan University in 2011

My daughter’s birth is the biggest gift and a miracle of my life. She lights up my world every day. I grew up in a culture where daughters are not valued. Now, I am a proud mother of a daughter. She is bright, positive, and has a good sense of humor. I hope that the gender inequality will become history in her generation. I cheer on all the mothers and daughters in the world. Happy Mother’s Day!

Cuiying Niu

This is the twelfth year since I encountered EGRC. The summer of 2010, I was just a high school graduate who got admitted to university. Now I am a career woman and a mother of two. After experiencing what it means to be a mother, I have become more appreciative of my own mother. On this Mother’s Day, I wish my dear mother good health and happiness.

Lili Huang

Lili HuangCollege Teacher, University of Moto Industry of University, Lanzhou City, Gansu Province; Graduated from Changan Engineering University in 2011

As a daughter, wife, mother and career-driven woman, I found it is hard to strike a balance between life and work. My busy role has made me appreciate my own mother more. I now understand how much she has sacrificed for her family. Mother, I wish you a very Happy Mother’s Day!

Meng YuanHigh school PE Teacher, Dingxi City, Gansu Province; Graduated from Dingxi Teachers College in 2012

I am a mother of three children, two of them are my own and the third one is my sister’s daughter. At the age of 16, my older sister quit school and started earning money to give my brother and I a chance to finish education. She is still working as a manual labour till this day. To ensure my sister’s daughter has the best opportunity to receive a good education like I did, I have taken her in to live at my home.

Fundraising Event in Toronto

On the 22nd of April EGRC Ontario Committee members hosted their first in person fundraising dinner since the end of 2019. There were nearly 100 enthusiastic supporters at the dinner, including special guests EGRC founder Ching Tien and the former Canadian Ambassador to China John McCallum. Many guests learned about EGRC for the first time. The event raised a total CAD 24,000 which will sponsor 20 new high school girls in the fall of 2022. We thank the organisers and all the attendees for their supports and generosity.
